Foreword:

Happinessissomethingthateveryoneseeksinlife.Butsometimes,itcanbeelusive,likechasingabutterflythatalwaysseemstoslipaway.However,Ibelievethathappinessisnotsomethingthatwecanonlyfindinthebigmomentsoflife,butalsointhelittlethingsthatweexperienceeveryday.ThisisastoryofhowIfoundjoyinunexpectedplacesandhowitchangedmylife.

Paragraph1:

Asachild,IalwaysthoughtthathappinesswassomethingthatIcouldonlyfindingrandadventuresorinreceivingmaterialpossessions.However,asIgrewolder,Irealizedthatthehappiestmomentswereoftenthesimplestones,likespendingtimewithlovedonesorenjoyingabeautifulsunset.

Paragraph2:

Oneday,whenIwasfeelingparticularlydown,afriendsuggestedthatItryvolunteeringatalocalanimalshelter.Iwashesitantatfirst,butIdecidedtogiveitatry.

Paragraph3:

FromthemomentIsteppedintotheshelter,Iknewthatitwasgoingtobealife-changingexperience.Thedogsandcatsweresogratefulforanyattentionthattheyreceived,andtheirwaggingtailsandpurringmademyheartfeelfull.

Paragraph4:

Overtheweeksandmonthsthatfollowed,Ifoundmyselflookingforwardtomyweeklyvisitstotheshelter.Itwasamazingtoseehowmuchjoytheseanimalscouldbringintomylife,andhowmuchlovetheyhadtogive.

Paragraph5:

Butitwasn'tjusttheanimalsthatbroughtmehappiness.TheothervolunteersattheshelterweresomeofthekindestandmostcompassionatepeoplethatIhadevermet.Beingaroundthemandtheirpositiveenergywasinfectious.

Paragraph6:

Asmytimeatthesheltercontinued,Ibegantorealizethathappinesswasn'tjustafleetingemotion,butsomethingthatcouldbecultivatedandsharedwithothers.IfoundjoyintheworkthatIwasdoing,inthepeoplethatIwasmeeting,andintheanimalsthatIwashelping.

Paragraph7:

Throughmyexperiencesattheshelter,Ialsolearnedthathappinesswasnotsomethingthatwasgiventome,butsomethingthatIhadtoactivelypursue.IttookeffortanddedicationtomakeadifferenceinthelivesoftheanimalsthatIwascaringfor,buttherewardswereimmeasurable.

Paragraph8:

AsIcontinuedtovolunteer,Ialsofoundthatmyownlifehadbeguntochange.Ifeltmorefulfilledandpurposefulthaneverbefore,andIrealizedthatthehappinessthatIhadfoundwassomethingthatcouldnotbetakenawayfromme.

Paragraph9:

However,lifeisnotalwayseasy,andthereweretimeswhenIfeltlikegivingup.Thereweredayswhentheworkattheshelterfeltoverwhelming,anddayswhenIfeltlikeIwasn'tmakingadifference.

Paragraph10:

ButitwasduringthesemomentsofdoubtthatIfoundthemostjoy.Itwasinthedeterminationtokeepgoing,evenwhenthingsweretough,thatIdiscoveredasenseofstrengthandresiliencethatIneverknewIhad.

Paragraph11:

Theanimalsattheshelteralsotaughtmeaboutthepoweroflivinginthepresentmoment.Theydidn'tworryaboutwhathadhappenedinthepastorwhatmighthappeninthefuture–theysimplyenjoyedtheloveandcarethattheywerereceivinginthemoment.

Paragraph12:

Thislessoninmindfulnesshasstayedwithme,evenasmylifehaschangedandevolvedovertheyears.WheneverIfeeloverwhelmedorstressed,Iremindmyselftofocusonthepresentmomentandtofindjoyinthelittlethings.

Paragraph13:

Asmytimeatthesheltercametoaclose,IknewthatIwouldneverforgetthelessonsthatIhadlearnedorthejoythatIhadfound.Ileftwithasenseofgratitudefortheexperienceandarenewedappreciationforthesimplethingsinlife.

Paragraph14:

However,myjourneytowardsfindinghappinesswasnotover.Lifecontinuedtopresentitschallenges,butInowhadthetoolsandperspectivetofacethemwithgraceandpositivity.

Paragraph15:

Ibegantofindjoyinnewplaces,liketryingnewfoodsorexploringnewpartsofthecity.Ialsofoundjoyinpursuingmypassions,likewritingandphotography.

Paragraph16:

ButperhapsthegreatestsourceofjoyinmylifehasbeentherelationshipsthatIhavebuiltwithothers.FrommyfamilyandfriendstothestrangersthatImeetonadailybasis,everyinteractionhasthepotentialtobringhappinessintomylife.

Paragraph17:

Ihavecometorealizethathappinessisnotadestination,butajourney.Itissomethingthatwehavetoactivelyseekoutandcultivateinourlives.

Paragraph18:

Whilehappinessmaynotalwaysbeeasytofind,itisalwaysworthstrivingfor.Itcanbringlighttothedarkestmomentsandcanmakethegoodmomentsevenbrighter.

Paragraph19:

Andso,Icontinuetoseekoutjoyinmylife–inthelittlemomentsandthebigones,inthefamiliarandtheunknown.Because,asIhavelearned,happinessisnotsomethingthatwecanpossess,butsomethingthatwecanalwaysstrivetowards.

AsIlookbackonmyjourneytowardsfindinghappiness,IamremindedofaquotebywriterNeilGaiman:"Mayyourcomingyearbefilledwithmagicanddreamsandgoodmadness.Ihopeyoureadsomefinebooksandkisssomeonewhothinksyou'rewonderful,anddon'tforgettomakesomeart–writeordraworbuildorsingorliveasonlyyoucan.AndIhope,somewhereinthenextyear,yousurpriseyourself."

Thisismywishforeveryone–thatweallfindjoyinunexpectedplaces,thatweneverstopseekingoutnewexperiencesandadventures,andthatwealwayssurpriseourselves.
